About raw+pure

It can be overwhelming embarking into the organic and natural world and so often we are tricked into believing a product labelled with the words ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ is better for us. Unfortunately, so many companies market their products based on this, yet their natural or organic product could have as little as 1% of the good stuff and the rest could be made up of toxic and synthetic ingredients. The only way to ensure a safe product is to read the labels.

A little bit about me

When struck by a mysterious virus in 2009 my body struggled to recover. After about twelve months I was still sick and finally got confirmation that I was indeed suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I pushed through; working as a high school teacher I could only manage half days at the very best. I would wake up, get myself ready for work, go in for a few hours and come home to sleep or lay on the couch for the rest of the day all to be able to get up and go to work the next day. After a while I slowly improved, so I started doing more. I worked more hours, started getting my social life back and started exercising again.

All to fall in a heap once again and I literally was confined to my bed or the couch for weeks, in fact it was months. Simple tasks like showering, getting myself a glass of water were a real struggle and felt like I had run a marathon. Once I was well enough to start looking after myself again I decided that I had tried everything I thought I could do to improve my health and as a last resort (I know this sounds silly now, as it should have been the first thing I did!) I decided to clean up my diet and lifestyle. I had always had an interest in the natural and organic world but got frustrated that the products I was using weren’t effective and when I discovered most of these products were still full of the toxic ingredients your conventional supermarket products had, I nearly gave up.

I started my clean up by incorporating green smoothies and shooters (the non-alcoholic type!) for breakfast and after my initial ‘Oh my goodness, what the hell am I doing?’ I found it hard to go without and when I did my body struggled. I became addicted to feeling the benefits of eating well and slowly cleaned up the rest of my diet. I am far from perfect and still have days where I’m not feeling well enough to prepare good food so I just grab anything to eat but all I know is the better I eat, the better I feel. I am a massive chocoholic and was relieved to discover cacao!

“I had a lot of time on my hands and I started to look into the ingredients
of all the products I was using and was horrified at some of the side effects”

From this I decided I needed to clean up what I was putting on my body. If I was carefully choosing what I was putting in my body I needed to consider what I put on it. After all what you put on your skin does go in! My skin was awful. I had a lot of time on my hands and I started to look into the ingredients of all the products I was using and was horrified at some of the side effects. Hormone disruptor, Asthma, Insomnia, memory loss, mood changes, Depression, dizziness, known carcinogenic… the list of potential side effects went on. Why on earth was I putting stuff on my body that could possibly cause any of these things? So I cleaned up and started my mission into using real natural and organic products; things that were as raw and pure as possible.

I hope you enjoy my blog! I am always trying new products and brands to ensure you know the best of the best.
