Have you ever stopped to think about the chemicals lurking in the clothes you wear? We try to improve ourselves by limiting our toxic intake by eating organic foods and applying organic skincare, but we often forget about the clothes we wear 24/7 and the affects it could be having on us.
The chemicals being used in clothing processes such as fabric treatments, dyes and printing or the creation of synthetic fibres are of concern. Chemicals such as nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs), which are commonly used as detergents in industries including the production of natural and synthetic textiles. NPEs break down to form nonylphenol, a dangerous toxin that has persistent and hormone-disrupting properties. This toxin has been proven to mimic female hormones, alter sexual development and affect reproductive systems. YUK!
After doing a little freak-out and realising that 99.9% of my clothes that I own would be full of chemicals I was relieved to be sent some of the basics from the O2wear bamboo clothing range. The pieces are made from bamboo viscose, spandex and organic cotton. There are no chemicals or toxins in the products which is a massive plus. Replacing your basics, the ones you wear directly on your skin, is a good and easy way to start.
I absolutely love the softness of the bamboo fabric and how it feels. I was sent the tank (RRP $34.95) and ¾ leggings (RRP $39.95), which I absolutely love because they are so soft and are super comfy. They are perfect for everyday wear and I will be purchasing more!
